The fruit is considered to be one of the finest for making sherbets because of its delicious flavor. Some people describe the flavor as a blend of pineapple and mango.
This tree is propagated by seed and occasionally grafted varieties are available. Soursop trees are low-branching, bushy and slender due to its upturned limbs. The glossy leaves of the tree when rubbed with the fingers leave a pungent odor on the fingers.
Soursop fruit is ready to eat when soft to the touch and a yellowish green color. Often the fruit if allowed to ripen for several extra days on the kitchen counter and then refrigerated for another day will turn very dark and almost purple.
Trees are damaged by temperatures near 42 degrees and lower, they will not tolerate freezing! Plant near the south side of a property and provide some additional wind protection.
